It's been a while since I have been on this board. We have been going to Cherokee a lot. It has improved since they put in regular Vegas type machines instead of the "Lock and Roll". Plus, it's a lot closer. But, now I am wanting to go someplace else. We used to go to Indiana and stay at Grand Vic or Caesar's. It's been so long since we have been, I haven't gotten any offers in months. But, at Horseshoe I can get rooms for $49 a night for Friday and Saturday next month. Not as good as free like we get at Cherokee, but not too bad. I was reading another board with reviews and they really were awful. They said since Harrah's took over, the place had really gone down. Super tight machines, dirty hotel rooms, rude employees, etc. I have always trusted the info I have gotten from this board and thought it would be nice to hear what you have to say. If it's that bad, I sure don't want to go. But I also don't want to pay $200 a night at Belterra or Grand Vic. We are wanting to take my sister and BIL for their first visit to Indiana and I don't want it to be a horrible experience. Not winning - we are used to that. Dirty rooms and rude employees - not used to that. Harrah's at Cherokee has wonderful rooms and everyone is extremely friendly. When the Horseshoe was Caesar's, we never had a problem (except not winning much). Please, those who have been to the casino, hotel and restaurants (buffet or grills - not the Steak House) - let me know your opinions. Is it worth a 4 hour drive? Are the rooms ok? Any opinions will be appreciated. Thanks for your help!

Well, I go to Horseshoe at least once a month, and I've never found a rude employee. I have not stayed overnight since Feb., but the rooms are always clean and quiet. I just ask if I can have one of the rooms on the same level as the checkout desk near the workout area. Now, I do usually check in pretty early---at least by 2 pm--- and I always go during the week, but I have always been able to get one of those rooms, and so far mine are comped, but I think a $49 rate for a weekend night is fantastic. Here is what I know about the food in the casino: the buffet (not as good as previous years but still good); the Ace High grill (now it's an Italian fast food place and have not eaten there). Believe it or not, the best place I've eaten is the grill in the casino. If you want a huge salad, you can get one as big as your head! lol. The hamburgers are fantastic or you can order pretty much what you want. There is a nice seating area with a big flat screen TV. Oh yes, there is a coffee shop on the same level as the check-in desk. It is opened kind of odd hours, but the coffee/breakfast foods are good. And I almost forgot, there is a new ice cream place, Graeter's out of Cincy. That ice cream is about the best you can find anywhere. The good thing about Horseshoe is that it is so big, you should be able to fine any machine you want. I DEFINITELY think the machines don't pay as well since they converted to Horseshoe. This time of year, it is a beautiful drive over to Horseshoe, and if you get bored with that casino, I think it's about an hour over to Belterra, and then Grand Vic is not far from Belterra. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'm meeting Karen at Belterra tomorrow, but I should be able to answer Horseshoe questions when I get back. Maybe some other posters can chime in also. I guess I sound like a travel agent for Horseshoe, but I'm not at all (in fact Horsehsoe just cut my cash back coupons). Now, I think Belterra is paying much better (particulary since Argosy has become Hollywood, and the new Indiana Live has opened). I've always thought Belterra was absolutely the best place to stay, but for $150 difference in room prices, I would certainly go to Horseshoe.

Can't comment on the slots because I don't play them but the Vp was good to me again, only one loosing session out of three. Food at the buffet was good as usual. My ribs at the sports bar weren't done and the green beens were cold and mushy. I''ll save my rib craving for Memphis. The pool was clean as always and the hot tub was hot. Never had an issue with the hotel or the staff. Our drive time is about the same as yours and I feel it's worth it.

I will be sure to let you know how it goes when we get back. Of course, it's not until the first weekend in November, so it will be a while. Can't wait to get back up there. We always liked Caesar's. And Harrah's Cherokee treats us very well. Hope this one will be as good.
