Does anyone know anything about Tallapoosa or Riverside Casinos in the Montgomery area? They are both small Indian casinos that have class II bingo type
machines. Someone told me on one of the boards once that the payout is better on those machines than the ones at the racetrack in Shorter. I 'm thinking
about checking them out this weekend and I'm just trying to see if it's worth it.

Our Daughter and Son in law went to one near Montgomery but neither of those names sound right. At the time he said it wasn't very nice, the machines were
in trailers. I dont remember how long ago they went. Hes been dead for a year and a half so I know its been at least two years or longer.

Charles,
Saw your post on Tunica. The one in Wetumpka is called Riverside Casino. I know they have a building, because there is a picture of it on the website. And I know the 3rd one down in Atmore is the largest. But the one in Tallapoosa is supposed to be 21000 sq ft and only have 500 machines. I think it's one exit past Shorter. I just heard the payouts are better. We may go check it out, but I bet its too crowded. I'll let you know what I find out!!! |

Mel let us know what you find out about the gambling in South Alabama. We live in Huntsville which is in north central Alabama and we know nothing about these
places. If they are good place to go to we might be interested in trying them out too. Thanks in advance.

Hey Bama,
I can already vouch for the racino in Shorter. That place is huge. Have you been there? I haven't really won there, (but then, I don't win anywhere ) but my parents have, and my friends. They have a ton of
games, and it's a lot of fun. We're going to go there tomorrow, as well as check out the small casino in Wetumka. I'll let ya'll know how it
is when we get back!!

Margaret,
I visited someone near Russellville, AL a few weeks ago. I think they actually lived closer to Belgreen. He had a beautiful place on a lake. I think he said it was TVA property. But I don't think it's too far from you. It sure is pretty up there. Bama, Margaret, Charles, and anyone wanting to play slots in Alabama, We checked out the casino in Tallapoosa yesterday. It's called Tallapoosa Entertainment Center. It's basically just one big room of class II slots. But we actually enjoyed it. We didn't stay long, because my friend was anxious to check out the changes in the much larger Shorter casino. I might go back sometime and hang out for a while, because I'd like to see if the payout is better there. But it really is just one smoky room. They have a nice little variety of machines though. This is owned by the Poarch Creek Indians, and they have 3 casinos ("entertainment centers") in Alabama. The website is www.pcigaming.com. Shorter, on the other hand, has made some amazing changes, and continues to do so. They have a grand new entrance, and have opened a new casino section. They are building a buffet and a new deli, and a hotel. They have a new players club center, gift shop, and ice cream shop. The upstairs still just looks like a dog track, but the downstairs has class II slots for as far as you can walk. Just when you think you've seen the whole thing, you find a whole 'nother section. Their website is www.quincys777.com. If this place is close enough to you, it's definitely good for a "gaming fix".
So no one in my group won, and everyone is convinced the payout is better there at night, but we played all day and had a great time. It was girls day. It was me, my mom, my friend Millie, and an ex co-worker who has now retired named Shirley. She was new to gaming, but caught on very quickly! We had such a nice day, and stopped for a nice dinner on our way home. Took a
drive through the square of Lagrange and the back road to Hogansville for a change of pace and scenery, then got back on the highway. Still made record time
because Shirley exceeds all speed limits by far more than I would ever be brave enough to do!! A good time was had by all!!!

Mel, you came real close to our daughters house yesterday. She lives in Grantville.
You know, maybe I can leave Claire at her place sometime and I can go over to Shorter. Claire and I went with Peggy and William to the dog track but this was before they started putting in all the machines. Since Claire cant walk very well and she really doesn't like to gamble, (I am the hooked one) that would be great for her. She is planing on going to Biloxi with me in a couple of weeks but I talked with her and Peg today about staying at her place in Grantville and just letting me drive to B Town by my self. I would stay two nights instead of three. Claire said she would think about it, but I really dont think she wants me to go by my self and have all the fun. , play VP, drink , go to the room watch a little TV, drink , come back down play VP and drink . I might take a break sometime and just have
a and skip the TV and VP.

Melinda:
Had to laugh...........Your friend wanted to check out the "much larger Shorter Casino". Gosh, you could be describing me. I think I would like the Shorter casino.
Charles: I think I know why Claire might not want you to go by yourself..........too much relaxation!

I have found that Claire sometimes changes her mind if I decide to go by my self. On the other hand sometimes she doesn't, so I really dont know how she
feels about this trip. I know she dreads the walking, and she really doesn't like to gamble, but she likes the coast and she likes getting out of town
also.

Melinda, we also get away when we are in Tunica, we have done the museum, the riverboat, the outlets, in fact this past time we drove all the way to Southhaven
and went to the Wal Mart. We do the Wal Mart in Biloxi also, but its just a hop, skip and a jump from the casinos. Southhaven is NOT a hop, ship and a jump.
Have you ever been to the Wal Mart on pass Rd, not the one on I 10 at the intersection of I 110. We go there almost every time we are down on the coast. We
usually spend money there also, but not as much at at the casino.

We always go the the Walmart on Pass Road when we're in Biloxi. I don't even know about another one. We always make a trip over and pick up drinks
and snacks and such. And I think there's a liquor store in the shopping center across from Walmart. We sometimes stop in there too!!! If I'm
thinking of the right place.
The last time my mom and dad went to Tunica without me, (they went with friends), mom forgot her makeup and had to go to the Walmart in Southaven to buy all new stuff. They ate while they were in the area. We've never ventured up there, but we did go do the Memphis thing one time. It hard to get us out of the casinos. When we go to Las Vegas, I can't even bring myself to go see Hoover Dam. I really do have to get over there!!

I believe you are right about the Liquor store across the Rd. Its next to what is now a Winn Dixie, use to be something else. I go in that grocery store
sometimes and pick up snacks, ginger ale, beer, etc.
You really should go out to Hoover Dam sometime. Its really fascinating. We enjoyed it. We took one of the tour buses that runs from the hotels out there, they usually stop a couple of times at other places coming and going, you know that one of them was a casino. We had a coupon for a free beer and a couple of dollars free play. It was a nice break. Claire got a soft drink, I got a beer and my Mother gave me her beer, she wasn't thirsty.

Hi Mel,
It will probably be a few months before I can go to Shorter.Wish it could be sooner. I'll give a report when I go.I can't believe I have been so close to the casino,in the past, and didn't know anything about them. Thanks for letting me know. Margaret |

Margaret,
That's why every time someone mentions a casino I'm not familiar with, I ask "where is that?". I have a horrible fear of finding out that I've been close to one and not stopped!!!!

Thanks for all the info. I get down to North Mississippi quite often, but maybe I can arrange a side trip down to Montgomery at some point.
I think I may have asked this before, but why is that casino legal in Alabama--because it is Native American???
|
|||
Georgia Mel |

No, Diz. I don't really know, but it has something to do with being Class II machines. It's a racino. The dog track has been there for years, and
they've added on the casino part.
Haven't driven from Shorter to Pearl River. It would be about a 4 hour drive. Honestly, if I was in Pearl River, I would stay put. The gaming choices are much better. As I said earlier, Shorter serves nicely as a "quick fix" for when I can't get to a real casino, or a stop off place on your way to somewhere. I wouldn't go 4 hours out of my way. |

Diz, they have a dog track near my sister, near Birmingham and the sheriff wont let them put machines in there. They have tried I understand. Sounds like the
old South ways to me.
