I am a regular at the Biloxi casinos, but will be traveling to Harrah's Cherokee for the first time in mid-November. We're drving up from Pensacola, so I hope the gas situation up that way improves before we go. Any advice on the slots, restaurants, what else to do in the area(on their side of the mountains), etc. will be greatly appreciated. I hear the Indian casinos are much tighter than others, but are there any machines that pay better than others usually? I am strictly a slot player, and mostly pennies. We will be there for 2 nights, and will spend the days site-seeing, going to the Smoky Mtn. Natl Park, and over to Sevierville. I thought maybe we'd take the train ride in Bryson City. Is it worth the cost? Will there be any color left on the trees mid-November? Thanks for any and all help/advice.

We did the Bryson City train ride last year, but it was the end of October, first of November, and it was beautiful, definitely worth the trip. There is an Indian Museum in Cherokee that is interesting if you've never been to it. Also, lots of craft shops and souvenir shops. I love the drive over to Sevierville. One year as I made the drive from Cherokee to Pigeon Forge, I saw dogwoods in bloom on one part of the drive and snow on the mountains on the other part, it was spectacular. Hope you have a great time. As far as the machines, the VP in the high limit area has been very good to me. This past trip I did well on the Monopoly 1 cent game, I think. And Carol, my friend, who plays almost exclusively in the nonsmoking section, did well on some of the 1 cent machines in the back of the nonsmoking section. Speaking of which, how are you doing on your quest to stop smoking? Haven't heard you mention it lately. Hope you have been able to stop. I know it must be hard. Anyway, hope to see you this coming weekend in Biloxi and hope you have lots of good luck in Biloxi and Cherokee. Linda

Cherokee is a fun place, I wish there was some competition, but oh well. The hotel is nice, the casino is nice. I have seen some big winners, not me, but it does happen. IN GOD WE TRUST

I think it depends on the day of the week you are there. When you go in the main front door, a lot of the penny machines are to the left. There is also a bank of machines that has a couple of Count Money, and Village People Party, and a couple of Stinkin Rich 2 machines. My husband, on a couple of trips, has done very well on the Count Money and Stinkin Rich 2 machines. The Goldfish machines are a couple of rows back in that same area. I don't know if you're into it or not, but if you have any interest in the Cherokee Indian history, the show that they do in town, "Unto these Hills", is supposed to be very good. My mom really enjoyed it. But we have a lot of Cherokee blood running through our veins, so perhaps it was of more interest to her. But if you like that sort of drama, you might enjoy the show. The casino is very nice, and the people are lovely. The slots can definitely be tight, but some days are better than others. I think you will enjoy your stay, it is very pretty up there! Just to see those beautiful mountains will be worth the trip. Hopefully we can at least win a little to play on awhile in the casino. The rooms are comped up front, and we have more reward credits than we could use for food. If I can just keep to my daily budget for gambling and keep hubby away from the ATM's, I'll be happy.

But, Harrah's is very generous with their rooms and food. We are not high rollers, but they always give us the rooms and food when we make our reservations. I have had luck on different machines - never the same one twice. I mostly play the nickels and quarters. I am such a sucker for the fun machines! For restaurants at the hotel, we like the one downstairs - SuieLu Garden is the name I think. They also have a more expensive one that we haven't tried, but I have heard a lot of negative comments on it. As for their buffett - I think it is overpriced and the food quality and taste are very inconsistent. We never go there any more. As for anything else to do in Cherokee - well, it's a tourist town with lots of souvenir shops. The area is beautiful, so getting out and riding is nice. We have done the train ride several times and will be going back to it Nov. 1. We always get the club car. To us it is worth the extra cost. You must be 21 to be in it, so no kids running around. Plus, they have snacks and soft drinks at no extra cost. Usually the food is enough without having to buy lunch. It is also the only car where you can order alcoholic drinks. I hope you have a great time on your trip. I am sure I will be leaving some money behind when I go, so feel free to get it and take it home with you!

Personally, I would suggest a trip to Cherokee just for that next year ....it's GREAT ...tells the story of the indians !!! May I also suggest going to the Museum...IF you think you may enjoy that. Also, HIGHLY suggested: Take a ride on the BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY... Please !! I would take on it toward Ashville, and spend the rest of the day there...with a lunch at the GROVE PARK INN.... which is VERY, VERY, VERY BEAUTIFUL, VERY, VERY SCENIC, EXCEPTIONAL...and a 'tucked away secret' DEFINATELY WORTHWHILE !!! These are just some of the 'things' on my MUST DO list that I HAVE TO DO each and every time I go to Cherokee. I personally would not bother to waste my time in the downtown Cherokee gift shops, as they are only loaded with cheap (or not so cheap) imported Chinese JUNK !!!....sorry, that's MY perspective ! I also suggest filling your tank up PRIOR to getting to the reservation...as gas prices USUALLY are higher there....not always though. There are also some very beautiful and interesting 'things' to see on your way up...especially in Northern Georgia... I for one like the Apple fritters on the way up....and the way back.... and the vegetable stands... and the gourds, which I like to pick up to incorporate with my pine needle basket activities.... Uhhh.... I just LOVE the Smokies !!! ...and IF it was up to me, would have moved there a l-o-n-g time ago.......BUT, my husband is correct...where I would like to live, we would have to have a permenant contract with a brake repair shop on the bottom of the 'hill'....lol HAVE FUN !!!
