Room bummer |
Lead | |

We are going to be making a trip over to Cherokee on Oct. 31 for two nights. I called to get our room and they only had Friday night available at the casino. I
am not changing rooms for a two night stay, so I told them to just give us a room at the Quality Inn. They did with no problem. I guess I should be grateful
that we never have to pay for rooms, but I guess we have been spoiled staying at the casino. I guess it just means that they won't get as much of my money
this time. Hubby never stays up very late gambling. I stay in the casino until at least 1am, usually 2 - 3. That won't happen this time since I will have
to go back to the room when he does - usually between 11 and midnight. Such a bummer! Oh well, at least we are going. We are taking the train ride again -
hoping the leaves will still be putting on their show. Barbara PS This board sure is quiet these days. Anybody doing anything interesting or fun or even dull
and boring?

Hello!
That sounds like a nice get-away planned. I agree, it's too bad that you couldn't bet both nights in the casino hotel so that you could do a little more gambling. But, at least you will be there, and maybe hit a Jackpot! Hope you do. Aww.....the train ride, and the pretty leaves. I sure hope they are putting on a good show for you. I just love this time of year. Yes, it has been a little quiet on here lately. My brother-in-law and his girlfriend were here from Louisiana with us for nine days (just left here Saturday). We had a great visit with them, and kept busy the whole time. We went to Amish country for some sight-seeing, shopping and good food one day. Went to the Buckeye Lake museum another day. Went to an orchard and got apples and cider, a few yard sales, drove around reliving all our childhoods ( ), celebrated one of their brothers' 70th birthday with a cookout, etc., did a lot of visiting, We were very busy, and now it is quiet here.
Have a great trip, and come back a winner. Looking forward to your trip report. Good Luck! Carol |

Well I don't know what happen to the reply I posted an hour ago, but I just wanted to say I hope you have a great time - it should be beautiful this time of year. I enjoy playing late at night in the casino too, but just think of all the money you might save by turning in a couple of hours early. Carol, did you take your family to Longaberger since it is practically in your back yard? I've always wanted to go but it never seemed to be the right
time when we were headed to Wheeling.

The last time I went, they didn't have a room available at the casino either. They gave us a room at the Fairfield Inn by Marriot, which is directly
across the street from the casino. They have a traffic light right outside their back door that goes to the casino entrance. It was the next best thing to
staying at the casino. I did decide from now on that if I can't stay at the casino, I'm going to request the Fairfield. They have put me up at
several others, but this one was definitely the best. It was a closer walk than the parking lot!
I just thought you might like to know about that one!! The room was tiny, I have to admit that. But that could just have been that one room. Otherwise, the hotel itself was very nice. Good luck, and have a great trip! |

Gambler, Claire and I will be driving through Cherokee on the way to Gatlinburg next week. I just imagine that we will be stopping in at the Grand and
spending an hour or so.
If it were up to me we would be staying in Cherokee for two days instead of Gatlinburg but Claire loves the burg. She started going up there with her family back in the 50's and you know how tradition is.

Mel knows how much I want to go back.....I tell her that all the time! Hope you and Claire have a great time. People on the Gatlinburg forum I read have said the leaves are really pretty now. Karen |

Karen, I am sorry about you health issues, I doubt if Claire and I ever get to go on another cruise. Its the pits, I get depressed sometimes. I will have to
remember and tell her what you said about the leaves, shes just gone to bed, I am not going to bother her.

They are having the Fall Cherokee Rod Run (old car show) in Cherokee this coming weekend. We will be at Harrah's from Thursday till Sunday and my
husband will be going over to the Fairgrounds during the day but I will be staying at the casino. I might venture to the fairgrounds if I run out of money but
I no longer enjoy looking at the same old cars over and over. He NEVER gets tired of it.

Linda: I am with you .....looking at old cars just does not do it for me at all. If I ran out of money in Cherokee, and after 'crawling the walls'....
I think # 1 I would see if the FREE PLAY machines are still there.... (last time I was there, they were remodeling the area, and I could not find them....),
thereafter I would find me one of those comfy chairs, downstairs overlooking the creek... or in the room with the fireplace, or upstairs among the great
carvings....and maybe read a book for a while while chewing on one of their pastries from the little shop upstairs, or having one of the delicious ice cream
cones from the Deli counter.
After that gets 'old', I would want to see if the leather place in town has any sales going on ....(almost the only store that I find 'decent'). I would probably look through their gift shops to see if they have any more of those little locally hand carved figures.....I know, one of their really good carvers died.....but, maybe somebody took his place ? Oh, and of course, since I make baskets myself, I would 'google'/admire those wonderful Cherokee made baskets, both in the restaurant on display, and also upstairs. Yah, there is nothing better than Fall in Cherokee, so while my husband is busy looking at old cars, I would take get into a newer model and head up the Blue Ridge Parkway for a 'spin'.......actually for the spectacular scenery, I might even take some pictures to show my husband what the rest of the world looks like....lol Hope you have a great time ! |

It sounds like just about everyone is going somewhere this weekend. I hope all of you have safe travel, and don't forget to let us share your trips with
you via posts over here.
Karen, I hope you are feeling better soon. I know longer trips maybe out of the question for now, but maybe you can get over to Four Winds or another nearly casino again. I know going to any casino usually makes me feel better even if I don't win---well most of the time, I feel better. |

TnGambler,
Just another thought, but why don't you take your husband to the motel when he gets ready to leave and then you come back to the casino and gamble, and you'll have the car when you get ready to leave. I'm assuming you drive, of course. I've never heard of any problems up in Cherokee. And as most everyone knows, I frequently go to the casinos by myself and never have had a problem. Of course your husband might be like mine used to be (you know, the chauvinistic kind) and wants you to come back with him and not venture out unless he's with you. Mine used to be that way, but once I discovered that going by myself wasn't half bad, he's had to make a few modifications. Linda |

Finally I can post again! For the past several days every time I tried to post, it would tell me I needed to sign in. I would sign in and it would go back to
the sign in page. It would show my name like I was signed in until I would try to post, then it would disappear. Really strange. Reset my pass word and all. Oh
well, it's working now. Mel, after reading your post, I called about changing to Fairfield. They told me they only use them once in a while and they were
not using them this weekend, so that didn't work out. They were still offering me Friday at the casino, but too much hassell to change for one night at
each. Charles, sorry you missed Cherokee. You needed to have gotten on I-40 and gone a little further north and then cut over. We go that way when the road
over the mountain is closed. It's not a lot further, but it is a nice drive. You come into Cherokee through Maggie Valley. But I am glad you enjoyed
Gatlinburg. We don't go there very often any more - we just take the by-pass around the city. We used to go a lot. By the way, where is the Cat House? I
never heard of it before. Is it open on Sundays? My sister and I both have two beautiful, wonderful Ragdoll cats and I'd love to see what they have there
for them. Linda, we most likely will take separate cars to the casino. We are meeting my sister and her husband. She is like me - she likes to stay later. So
we'll most likely have a girls car and a guys car. Both of these guys are chauvinistic! They think we can't take care of ourselves. I think when we
went on our girls only trip to Harrah's in New Orleans they thought we'd never return! :-) I am really not worried. If I felt unsafe at all, I'd
have no problem asking for an escort to the car. We will be leaving in a few more hours. I cannot wait to get there. We all really need this weekend. I just
hope the leaves will still be pretty. They haven't peaked here in Knoxville yet, but I know they peak sooner over there. Keep your fingers crossed that we
can win a little this time.

Hmm, that must be why they've never offered me the Fairfield before. The weekend I stayed there, was a Hootie & the Blowfish concert, and it was
really busy. I bet they use them when it's especially crowded!!!
Can't wait to read your report when you get back. I bet you're already on the road by now! Lots of luck!!!!

TnGambler, I have been the I 40 route before, this is not the first time I couldn't
get over the mountain, it happened a couple of years ago. I just felt that it would take too long and we needed to get on home and beat the afternoon rush
(slow) hour in Atlanta.

Charles,
TnGambler, Sorry about the sign in thing. It asks me that info each time after I clean up the cache, so I guess the cookie that was there goes away. Hope ya'll have a great trip. I'm anxious to read about everyone's travels. It's great weather for a trip anywhere this weekend!
