Now Diz tells me to wear Frog socks. I don't want to talk about this
Diz.
On Monday, I'll be posting pictures of our oh so cute piggy
socks. Did they bring us luck?. I'm going to go with ......yes. I did not hit any big jackpots. But I left Cherokee with money, which for us, and Cherokee,
is a first.
We left my office, near the Atlanta airport at 2:30 on Friday. Breezed through Atlanta northward to arrive in Cherokee just before 5:30. The timing could not have been better. The way the sun was shining on the leaves as we drove between Dillsboro and Cherokee through the mountains was absolutely breathaking. Literally. The color was beautiful, and the sun was hitting it just right, and my mother was in the back seat just gasping at the splendor of it. The trip was off to a perfect start.
We checked in, my parents were thrilled with their room. They'd never actually stayed at the Harrah's hotel before. We'd brought along a bottle of wine. Our room had a nice sitting area, so they came up to our room, and we all had a nice glass of wine before we went down. It was dinner time, so we went to the Selu Garden Cafe and had a sandwich before heading off to play. We've always enjoyed the food there, and this trip was no exception.
We went to our favorite nickel machines first. I put $20 in my favorite Count Money, and Royce put $20 in his favorite Filty Rich 2. We both immediately hit something - mine was Mystery Wilds, that put our credits at around $130. We saw quickly that the machines were not going to do anything else though, so after our $20 investment was gone, we took our profits and ran. I couldn't begin to tell you what all we played, but I can tell you that we held our own, until about 11:00, when all of the sudden things took a downward spiral, and we both started losing rapidly. We decided it was time for bed, and that we would save the money we had left to play with the next day.
The next morning, we met mom and dad for breakfast, again at Selu Garden. I was buying all of their meal with my Total Reward points, so they were pretty happy to be getting free food that was tasty too! Dad was especially enamoured with the biscuits and gravy.
Normally, at Cherokee, we're leaving in the mornings, because we've
blown through all of our money the previous evening. We didn't expect to be there long that morning. We were very surprised when our money lasted until
2:30 and we decided to leave because we'd played all we cared too, not because we ran out of money. Mom and dad didn't have any luck on Friday night,
but mom hit a dollar machine on Saturday morning that put her back even, and dad hit a quarter machine for about $250. As we left, dad said he was down $12.
for the trip. Not bad for a night and day of fun!!!!
At 10:10 on Saturday morning, mom, Royce and I went out in front of Harrah's and waved like fools in the general direction where we thought the webcam was. We stood there for a couple of minutes. First we stood right in front of the big post in the middle, then we walked kind of out in the middle of the street and waved some more. But when I looked on the website, the pictures they took were at 10:03 or 4, and again at 10:36 or something. I don't remember what times, but it wasn't when I was out there.
I've been watching this
thing, and it seems like every day it's been at 10:13 or 14 or 15. But not the day when we're standing out there waving our best parade waves. Me and
mom were even saying "Hey Karen", like she could hear us or something!!!
Oh, TnGambler - Royce and I found the Diamonds and Devils nickle reels you were talking about. We both put in $20. Mind sucked it right up. Royce on the other hand, got 3 devils. Wow, that was fun - his machine went crazy - when it was done - he had just over $100. So he cashed out. So between us - it was a $60. profit! Thanks for the hint!
So all in all - a great trip! We lost overall gambling - but not as much as we took to lose. My parents had a great time - and hopefully they will now get free rooms from Harrah's again, and we can go back with them again. And we got to see some pretty leaf color before it's all gone.
So Diz, think about it before you switch to froggy socks. You may not want to betray those pigs just yet.
