Voters by a 10 point margin voted to get rid of Missouri's $500 loss limit.
So what do you think that will mean? And has anyone heard of when it goes into effect?

Casino city times had a news article about this today. It should be towards the end of the month.

Well, eliminating the loss would result in more revenue for the casinos, wouldn't it? It will be interesting to see what happens. Do any other states
have one of those loss limits?

The Missouri Gaming Commision lifted the loss limit effective today. 11/7/08

St. Louis is going to play a big part in our gaming future. We still love gambling and our personal circumstance with our eldest son and his family there make
this the most logical destination for us to get our fix. We're very happy to read of the repeal of the limit, not because it will alter our play, we were
never in any danger of bumping the $500 ceiling. We're happy because it should bring in bigger gamblers than us which will make all of the casinos here
more viable allowing them to expand upon the services and quality they provide. On example is that we now have hope that the High Limit VP bar at Harrah's
will be staffed 24/7 whereas it was only so on the weekends up until now. Go St. Louis!

Missouri voters had their heads somewhere very dark. This proposition also taxes the 13 MO casinos an additional $100 million per year, and put a freeze on no
new casinos ever. That's taxation aimed at a very small segment of business. I would expect layoffs, decrease in services, fewer comps, higher hotel and
food prices..
The casinos aren't going to absorb an extra $8 mil each per year in taxes and be happy about it. All the voters heard was more money for schools. |

Ameristar, Harrah's and Pinnacle all lobbied vigorously for the passage of Proposition A. When we visited Harrah's in October, they must have had 1,000
signs placed throughout the grounds and the property supporting this amendment. Not only did they not fear it, they totally embraced it. The casinos invested
millions in its passage!

Yesterday Dec. 29, 2008 we stopped by Harrahs in Maryland Heights MO because we were driving by and Jim had a cash coupon they had sent him (which
since we rarely go there we were shocked) that was only through the next few days. Have to use free money right? You still have to give them your players
card to enter the casino at Harrah's. This surprised me because I had heard that was one thing the casinos would change, they wanted the high rollers to
fly in to play without the loss limits and it was to be like Las Vegas. Can you see "whales" being flown in and going standing in line to get a
player's card, I don't think so......

Way To Go Kathy, if I went to a casino and played for a couple of hours and was only down $5.00 I would be happy as all get out. That is a win in my book.

Hey I do agree with Charles, down only $5 after a couple of hours would certainly be a win for me.
Where is Maryland Heights, MO? |

That would be a win for me, too Kathy!
Diz...Maryland Heights is a suburb of St. Louis close to the airport. I went to that Harrahs about 11-12 yrs ago. I also went to Ameristar the day before but I think it was a different name back then. I also was at one in Kansas City but for the life of me can't remember what the name of it was.....Was there ever a Flamingo casino in KC? They gotta stop changing all the names of these casinos since I can't remember anything anymore.

Diz,
I was trying to look online to see when that movie was coming out and I found one thing that said July 1st but that seems so long away since they were filming it last spring. Maybe that article I read wasn't even correct.....who knows? I know a lot of people around here are anxiously awaiting it. I'm sure the parts that were filmed in my town for three days are probably going to take all of about 2 minutes in the film!

Yep, Maryland Heights is in St. Louis County, it is where the Harrahs is located in the St. Louis area. Across the river from Harrahs in St. Charles County is Ameristar Casino. I am not sure but I think it was a Stations casino before it was bought out by Ameristar. Stations Casino St. Charles maybe? Then if you drive to downtown St. Louis over highway 70 East I guess about 20 miles you will have the new Luminere Casino and Hotel and the President Casino on the old Admiral, a boat known to all St. Louisans over the age of 55 I would say. Across the river from the President in East St. Louis Illinois is the Casino Queen which is said to be the loosest of all the casinos. I have never been to any of the casinos downtown or the Queen. We keep saying we should go there but never think about it until later. Kathy |

Went to Harrahs last week one day (I think it was Thursday the 12th) we lasted maybe an hour with our money and as usual no play no wins and they are
still swiping your card to get in the casino which as I said before, for some reason this really ticks me off! It is getting so I do not even want to go to
the casino's here at all, told my husband it is senseless for us to go more than every other week, the week we do not go we can put the money to
"money not lost to Harrah's or Ameristar" Save it for Tunica!
Kathy (I sounded crabby didn't I? Sorry guys....) |

Hey Kathy,
So you can't even get into the casino without a players card? I don't get that. I was only at that casino once a long time ago and it was when they still were charging to get in there. I think it was like $2 early and then a little more at night or something like that. I think it's ridiculous that we used to have to pay to lose money. I was paying the first couple times I went to the Empress in Joliet, IL (the one that just had the big fire) but after I had been there a couple times I didn't have to pay anymore. Guess they saw how much money I was losing each time and figured that covered the admission fee.
Are you going to Tunica soon? Karen |
