Well, we got away to the mountains for two days. Part of my plan was to stop in Harrahs Cherokee for a couple or three hours playing VP. I got to thinking instead of doing it on the way up I would do it on the way back. We left Sunday and instead of driving the Cherokee route, we did the Chattanooga to Maryville to Gatlinburg route. I planned on coming home through Cherokee this morning. Well, as we entered the park to drive over the mountain the road was closed, ice on top of the mountain I think. It was pretty chilly in the valley, I know it was well below freezing at the higher altitudes. We ended up driving back the same way we went up so NO GAMBLING this trip. All this means is I have a good excuse to go to Biloxi now as I had a coupon waiting in the mail box when we got home today with $80.00 free play and a free room. I have a feeling its TREASURE BAY, HERE WE COME. WA HOO IN GOD WE TRUST

A Michigan friend of mine just called from Knoxville and is really bummed cause she couldn't get over the mountain to go to Cherokee for the first time. She was down there visiting one of her sons and the highlight of her trip was going to be to go to Cherokee. Boy, is she an unhappy camper right now Aretta (aka Simmie)

Hope you get to go to Biloxi and use that free play. The Beau keeps sending me monthly 1 night comp and some free play but don't know when/if I'll get to go there. So these swamp (us)people better not plan a trip to Cherokee from Oct-March? I don't want to slide over the mountain. Sue

I guess they'll all be gone by the end of next week when we're there? I really hate it that you had to come up with yet another valid reason to go to Biloxi!!!! Mel, Maryville is nice, I was commenting to my wife yesterday how pretty it was around the college there. Carol, I am still married to Claire, not Doris. P.S. Oh Mel, I think the leaves will still be pretty next week, the reds are not very bright, but the yellow's are nice. IN GOD WE TRUST

Sorry Carol, we've got to have some fun at your expense!!! After seeing the pictures that Patrick and Teresa sent me of the beautiful colors in Michigan a couple of weeks ago, nothing I've seen here compares. I told Karen that I'm ready to move up there. She's trying to convince me that all the snow shoveling isn't worth it, but those trees sure were pretty. Between that and the lakes, I'm ready to go!!!! Plus, I hate the heat. I think I was born to be a Michigander. Is that what I'd be called?

(Of course, I don't shovel it. Hubby does ) The other three seasons n Michigan are worth putting up with the snow. Really we only have 2 seasons - winter and road construction We need more Michiganders cause the mass exodus from here is bad from no work. There really are four seasons up there, they just don't last very long, Spring is very short, Summer is about three days long, Fall is very short and Winter is VERY long, it makes you appreciate Summer when it does happen. But seriously, I loved the Summers in the UP but I did see it snow in June once, I have told some people that and they didn't believe me, but it really did happen. IN GOD WE TRUST

Mel...you are welcome up here anytime(in Michigan OR Indiana). I guarantee though after one season of shoveling, you'll be ready for the south again. Aretta...I was telling Mel that the "best" part of shoveling is when you finally get down to the end of your driveway after spending forever shoveling and you turn around and look back and the wind has blow it completely shut again! Yep...sure do LOVE that snow! Charles.....I would give up gambling for a year if I could go back to Gatlinburg....well, maybe 6 months. I can't believe the Smokies got snow before we did. I could look at photos from there all day long! If Gatlinburg was only half as far as it is from here, I would make the trip no matter how I felt. I know I couldn't do the walking I've done in the past but I seen so much just driving around in the park and the area. I just want to see a bear walking around...just once and I'll be happy. If I did get down there, since my legs aren't going to let me go on any more hikes to see the waterfalls I suppose I could drive to Cherokee and give Harrah's one more try since I hated it the only time I went. See? I really couldn't give up gambling if I got to the Smokies!

Charles: That's what I get from talking to a neighbor (named Doris) and then getting on here and checking the board. I guess she was still on my mind when I responded. (Claire---I really know your name. ) By the way, when Jerry's brother and girlfriend were here a couple weeks ago from Louisiana, Doonie went on and on about how pretty the trees were with their color---and they hadn't even reached their full color yet. She would have loved being here this week. Oh! And, snow? Jerry says as long as he can get the van in and out of the drive-way, why shovel? The walks, he does shovel. Thank goodness. Carol

I thought maybe she knew a secret about Charles!!! Karen, Gatlinburg is beautiful. And you know how I feel about Tennesee. But you'd really give up gambling for 6 MONTHS????? What do you folks think? Do we believe Karen or not?? I'd hate to see her at the end of that 6 months!!!!

I love beautiful scenery---but, I can look at pictures for that. I can drive here in Ohio and see pretty scenery throughout the state, and it can tide me over, until I can go for a longer drive. Now gambling is another story. I want the real thing then........ I don't think playing the slots on Pogo would hold me for six months. Of course, if I had to........that would be a different story. But, let's hope that won't happen. I might go nuts (nuttier than I already am).

Thanks....those were nice. I know all about the Smoky Mountain Cat House! I go there every time I am down there. They really have a lot of nice stuff in there and if you need a gift for a cat lover, that is the place to go! The first time I went there, I really started missing MY cats when I saw all the cats that live there so I finally just had to leave. The only thing about those cats there is that they sometimes don't look too healthy. The last time I was there, the guy that owns it said that a lot of them are rescued cats.

It must be handed down because my sister has cats and our daughter has cats. We bought Claire a t-shirt and a yearly planner. We cant go in there without spending money. The owner introduced us to all of his cats, well, all that was in the area. They all looked healthy. IN GOD WE TRUST

Its been a couple of years since I was there so I'm sure there are different ones in there. It seems like wherever you look there is a cat sitting somewhere. Last fall was the only time I did not go to the store. The last time I was in there though he had a sheltie in there that I think he said that he was like 20 yrs old . I was going to ask if the dog was lost and was supposed to be at the Smoky Mountain Dog house next door!
