My friend called this morning. She and hubby got back here around 4 am this morning (partially due to a massive thunderstorm and driving rain and mostly due
to his playing poker at Hollywood). She said the new casino has two levels with the bottom level being non-smoking, but you have to walk through the first
level (all smoking) to get to the center of the casino and the escalator down to the lower floor. As I mentioned in another post, she didn't go back to
the slots after she and her daughter left, but she did say she thought they were really tight, and the people around her playing were saying the same thing.
One of the odd things she said was that you really couldn't hear the slots as there was all piped in music playing all the time. I don't think I've been to a casino like that. Usually you can hear the music, special effects from the machines over the background music.
Her hubby lost overall playing poker, but he was playing a limit game, and he is much better at no-limit. There are 41 poker tables, all with gold felt instead of the traditional green felt. The poker room was really crowded. He did say that Hollywood can expand the poker room by 100 more tables for tournaments, and I think he said one of the big poker tournaments would start August 3. He also said there as a "celebrity pit" for special guests, entertainers, etc.
Well, that is about it. I can't wait for another eye witness to the new place.
